So, I usually don’t listen to hip hop at all, unless its’ something that Joe puts on. Doesn’t mean I don’t like Hip Hop, in fact it’s quite the opposite. I just don’t like 90% of the shit that I hear because it’s…well…shit. This track however caught my attention. Love the beat, love the message, and really liking that it’s from a Toronto artist. The intro just grabs you.
Check the tune, and then go download the full album (released over a year ago, sorry I’m slow). In my opinion the video above is for the best track on the album which I assume is why the album is titled the same.
Breakdown popped up on the radar last year when they remixed Derezzed by Daft Punk, and it got used in a remix trailer for Tron. I’ve been following them since, and they just sent over this belter of a mix for the summer time.

Out of all the mixes I’ve made, this is my personal favorite. I literally managed to get all my favorite tunes and a bunch of brand new stuff all in one 77 minute mix. I don’t want to describe the mix too much, chances are you recognize a bunch of the tracks on the list. The others are very similar. I also tried to break up the more intense tracks with a bunch of really chill stuff.

Took me a while to get this one right. Starts off a little aggressive because the recent spring weather has been complete shit. However after a few tracks you can begin to sense my mood was changed to thoughts of the coming summer. With bass music in it’s prime this year, I’m looking forward to sweating my ass off dancing in big clubs and even Algonquin park (almost). WEMF’s full line-up was announced recently and it’s insanely good. Also check out Embrace’s full summer flyer. Basically Toronto is in for a fucking treat.

Gone are the golden days of drum & bass in Toronto, when labels like Vinyl Syndicate and Furious Records were cranking out world renowned vinyl and getting play by all the top djs. Instead, since things went digital, most Canadian producers have made their mark via UK labels like Metalheads and Digital Soundboy. In 2009 however, something happened here that I think is pretty awesome. Toronto dj/podcaster/blogger Dustin Kapulet, started his own label after being inundated by Canadian artists submitting tracks for his CCDNB (Canadian Content DNB) podcast. Now for most of you this is old news, but seeing as we’re getting lots of hits from all over the world, any page that links back to this awesome label/music can’t be a bad thing.

In my opinion one of the best elements of the ever evolving scene we’re in, is the blatant lack of rules for genre’s of music. Coming from a dnb background, I can remember when it was a big deal that dnb had a new subgenre, now there are re-edits of re-edits spanning the dubstep, electro, and dnb world together. With more and more dj’s and producers branching out, there is one electro dj who (to the best of my knowledge) has never produced or dj’d dnb, yet reflects the best elements of the music in his style. Le Castle Vania (working consistently alongside the majority of the Lifted electro aliases [computer club, kill the noise, treasure fingers]) produced the boh-emoth (ha) remix of Messiah, and in his new mix tape shows right from the start that the the more technical and dark side of drum and bass can bang out 4/4 properly.

I’ve had this mix CRANKED in my car/ipod since I got it last week and it shows no sign of being bumped out by anything at all. Jacques Greene slaughters the first half and label mate Rustie goes ahead and crushes the second.

As if anything else couldn’t add to this perfect Friday; Destiny, Embrace and TorontoJungle.com announced “Phase 1″ of the WEMF Line-Up. Which includes Andy C, Noisia, Rusko, Skrillex, Flux Pavilion, and Zeds Dead. If this is just a “Phase 1″ I will 100% be there. Regardless of what “Phase 2″ brings. It also sounds like they might try to make this event a world renowned music festival in the same vain as Coachella, Burning Man, and Electric Zoo, which I can only hope is true. While all the festivals before hand were dope, there was a certain level of sketchyness that made it a little unbearable in my old age.
