What a fucking weekend. Thanks again to Destiny and Embrace for bringing this yearly event back with a vengeance. The line-up this year was the best it’s ever been. This photo set includes pics of Zeds Dead, Rusko, Donald Glaude, Calvin Harris, Loadstar, Noisia, Andy C, Jack Beats, and bunch of ravers. Amazing talent, the main stage was unbelievable, and none of the no-shows mattered to me.

Special thanks to all the people I chilled with at the party tent! And also Krystal, Christie (Happy Birthday) and Janet for all the chocolates!

Gone are the golden days of drum & bass in Toronto, when labels like Vinyl Syndicate and Furious Records were cranking out world renowned vinyl and getting play by all the top djs. Instead, since things went digital, most Canadian producers have made their mark via UK labels like Metalheads and Digital Soundboy. In 2009 however, something happened here that I think is pretty awesome. Toronto dj/podcaster/blogger Dustin Kapulet, started his own label after being inundated by Canadian artists submitting tracks for his CCDNB (Canadian Content DNB) podcast. Now for most of you this is old news, but seeing as we’re getting lots of hits from all over the world, any page that links back to this awesome label/music can’t be a bad thing.

As you can see I was too busy taking pics all night to really get a chance to appreciate how great this night was. I’ve been waiting for a solid Hospital Records member play at the Guv since Destiny started using the venue. Truth be told up, until the final hour, I almost didn’t make it. The music was so much more than I expected. One of the first few tunes was literally a favorite track of mine which put me in a great mood all night.

Thank you Destiny, TorontoJungle and whoever else was involved in making this happen!

With a solid month of music almost in the books, this Friday @ 99 Sudbury will undoubtedly be a treat for any neck-snapping-house enthusiasts. Have been listening to both of these guys solidly for the last week, and not shockingly have been limited in the amount of time’s I can just regularly sit on the bus to and from work and not shoot gun fingers and make “oh” faces to the degenerates on my transit.

A couple of my favorites to start the post hump day mood for the upcoming weekend:

I rarely (if ever) post or listen to mash ups (excluding all Duck Sauce), but the beat alone on this beast is hard, fun and quick, thumping yet minimal, basically my lovelife CV circa 1995, hiyoo.

Nasty bass promomix – schlachthofbronx by schlachthofbronx

If you have a bit more time on your hands, and are in that awkward phase of doing nothing, but knowing you’re going to be doing something soon, but aren’t drunk yet, but the more you think about it are kinda drunk, here’s a banger of a promo mix to gurn out and wine down to.

Rusko – Feel So Real (Dubbel Dutch Remix) by dubbeldutch

Lastly, DD’s remix of Rusko’s Feel So Real is definitely not something to be taken lightly. I’m a huge fan of house remixes of dubstep tunes, as they always take a unique approach when trying to lay out how to double the beat count. Jack Beats remix of Caspa’s remix of TC’s Where’s My Money (fuck that last sentence was an asshole) gave the tune a new light as a fast paced ghetto step smorgasboard of hits and “hey’s”. On this remix, Dutch takes a more controlled check of the tune and produces something special that maintains the soul of the original, while giving someone with their shirt ON the ability to still dance to it.

What an amazing night all round. T.E.E.D. actually blew me away. Music was the perfect way to start the night, and open up for Fakeblood, who also destroyed Mod Club.

I was expecting a bit more obnoxious electro, and was really pleasantly surprised by what he played. Really good bass heavy house minus the grinding chainsaw.
